April 1964, Jack Goodman, owner of Clarence Dixon Cadillac in Hollywood California, ordered the only Cheetah to ever to be built and raced with a Heavy-Duty Corvette 427ci L88, aluminum head racing engine.
In June 2016, I recreated the original hand-lettering on the same Cheetah with a handful of original images given to me by Bob of BTM who was restoring the Cheetah. From those photos and doing a bit of my own research I was able to get the correct scale and lettering style to match the Cheetah as it raced with the number 33. Although the lettering might look a little better than it did as does the silver paint. This body has one of the smoothest laid silver metallic paint jobs I’ve seen and over fiberglass no less, cheers to Dave Rose.
This Saturday, January 21st 2017 the Cheetah is going to be auctioned at the famed Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona. Could this one of a kind Cobra Killer bring seven figures? I can’t wait to see!

Classic Steelie Wheel Stripes

Another set of classic steelie wheels. This time with triple, off white pinstriping. After finishing a four wheels, I can’t stress enough and just how important, a simple look of a pinstripe can dramatically change the look of your project.

Forty Years of Flat Out

SoCal of Arizona celebrates it’s 40th year in business!

20141212-005712.jpg
I know it’s a little late to post this but before the year is over I’d like to say thanks once again to SoCal of Arizona for being such a huge part of Hot Rodding. Frank, Mary and the whole crew at SoCal this one was for you!
It was a gift from the crew to be given to Frank and Mary for everything they do and for Fourty years in business. I’ve also got to give a big thank you to Norm and William of 10th Street Autobody for thinking of me when they needed to get this gift decorated. I’m very grateful and it was truly an honor!

Bitch’N Cragars

20140328-134750.jpg

Pinstriped wheels used to be the norm in the early twentieth century. I love seeing artillery style wheels from the 30s or the old wood T wheels with starburst style pinstripe details dressing them out. It seems the big hubcap that took over in the 40′s-50′s killed off the decorative pinstriped wheel. It just wasn’t needed anymore. Now I’ve seen a lot pinstriped wheels, I see pinstriping everywhere I go, but over the years I’ve never seen a set done up like this. The closest set that I saw were set up at a GNRS in a wheel vender’s booth, on a similar if not the same style wheel but it was still a bit different.
This set now belong on an old ford pickup who’s owner came to me while he’d been updating it. It had some older billet wheels that just didn’t work with the truck. So he had sought out something cooler and with these Cragars in hand I was allowed to do what I thought would look good…..perfect situation! I just had to stick with pinstripe colors that already adorned the truck. Here’s what I came up with. Some pictures of the wheels when I had them and a before and after shot of the truck sent to me by the client.

Distressed quickie

20140320-142719.jpg

The guys and gals at Drew Brothers Customs besides doing collision work have been into trucks, early trucks, patinaed trucks and just plain cool trucks and they’ve been putting together these classic pickups with a Hotrod flare. This one in particular is a 1959 Chevy step side done up with a faux patina paint job and of course they needed some hand brushed logos to finish it up. This was a stencil process considering that Franklin Law needed to keep their logo consistent and unchanged so we opted to do the quick route by using the companies vectored logo, making a stencil, still brushing in the paint by hand with classic sign paint, letting it dry overnight and doing a rub through to give it that vintage look.

Prius Pinstriping and Shugoshin Designs

Another great car featured in this video by Jin of Kyoei USA. A car I decorated with a little “Shugoshin” design accompanied by long stripes down the sides of the 2014 Prius.

Shugoshin designs are sort of amulets of protection, talisman, crests or symbols of status. It pulls from two cultures, Japanese iconography and American Hotrodding and are designed to fit these VIP style cars with restraint and subtlety. The look is very impactful when discovered by the viewer but goes unnoticed from a distant glance.

The car is the second feature in this video starting at the 2:04 mark. Thanks to ACCtv for producing this video!

USA Speedskaters with Pinstriped Suits

20140219-101631.jpg

If you hadn’t noticed yet, at the 2014 Olympics this year in Sochi, US speedskaters are sporting new high-tech suits created by two companies, Under Armour and Lockheed Martin, which feature some very bold pinstriping. In the search to create the world’s fasted suit somebody decided that nothing was more American than “flat” black and hotrod pinstriping!
