There’s a time that comes when someone inevitably passes on the option of pinstriping. This is, in most cases, a mistake. It just looks better! It’s because it adds a level beyond being to simple and not simple-good, I’m talking amatuer simple. Pinstripes add a level of complexity that the job needs in order to look complete, finished and intentional. Now, deciding on the color of pinstriping is another decision and topic for another day.

GNRS 2013

I just attended my third consecutive Grand National Roadster Show and I gotta tell ya, if you haven’t been, start making plans to attend next year because it’s one hell of a show. This was its 64th year and I was more than happy to be there even when the rain washed out the cruise in portion of the show which happens on Saturday/Sunday. Previous years I had gone as a spectator and when I started thinking of making the trip this year I discovered that East Coast Artie was now directing the pin-striping charity portion of the show and that some expenses were paid to help pinstripers attend and partake in the event. I have had the pleasure of meeting Artie at SEMA years past and sent him an email asking if there was still room for another striper and lucky me, there was!
I’ll finish this up by saying everyone I encountered and met at the show were a swell bunch of guys and galls! So here are some of the pics I thought turned out well enough to edit and post, not a lot, just enough to wet your whistle and make me plan a little better for next years show so I can spend a little more time looking at cars and still do a bunch of striping!

Gold Flakin’

Golden Domes
So this was the scene last Thursday night as all these helmets had the appropriate amount of time to cure. It was midnight and they were ready for stickers. I had to put the S-One manufactures stickers on the back, the girls numbers on the side and figure out what I was gonna do for my logo. I had some of my “bombing” stickers and thought they would work but when I placed them on a helmet and tried for different placement to get the right look, I was coming up short. I went ahead and finished putting all the padding back in the helmets to get them ready to go back in the boxes from which they came. The derby girls were expecting them Friday and I wouldn’t have much time to put the finishing touches on so I rushed to the computer, opened CorelDraw and went to work. Thirty minutes later at 2am in the morning I had a file that I sent off to my sticker guy at Swallow Graphics in hopes that he’d have the time to pump them out by 9am. He came through, the stickers look great and the “Hot Shots” Arizona Derby Dames team were happy!
